Välkommen! MGRC Event at the American Swedish Institute

Please join the Minnesota Green Roofs Council for a presentation and tour of the green roof on the new Nelson Cultural Center at the American Swedish Institute.

Named after benefactors Carl and Leslie Nelson, the American Swedish Institute’s new 34,000-square-foot addition opened in June 2012.  The Cultural Center includes a museum shop and café, art gallery, studio and craft workshop, offices, and flexible event spaces.  The Swedish-modern building is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification and includes geothermal heating and cooling, extensive use of windows to provide abundant natural lighting, and a green roof.  The green roof is intended to provide insulation for the building and to reduce stormwater runoff from the roof.

Our event will include two parts:  presentations by representatives of HGA (project architect and landscape architect); Arteka Companies (landscaping); and Roofmeadow (roofing components); followed by a tour of the green roof, with time for questions and discussion.  While our event will focus on the green roof, the presenters will briefly include information on the other green building aspects of the project.

Date: Thursday, November 15, 2012; 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Registration, coffee, and networking at 8:30 a.m.

Cost: $40 Early Bird; $20 for currently enrolled students. $60 on day of event.
